Mom

This is my mom who is 96 and has Alzheimer's. Her name is Ruth and I'm her caregiver. I have become an expert on the making of her favorite foods, especially puddings! If you take 2 cups of milk, heat it on the stove, then add 1/3 cup semolina flour, 1/2 cup sugar and cook until thickened, take it off the stove, add grated lemon peel and 1tsp.vanilla, you will have a pudding that is really nummy.

White Roses

This is oil on canvas on board and is about 5"x5"(12.7x 12.7 cm.) These only bloom in spring and are really pretty when the do bloom. They smell good, too.

Small skull

A small skull of a squirrel I found in the rubble of my Grandpa's burned-down wood shop. Grandpa was a wonderful carpenter, and hand built wooden hunting skiffs. I can still remember him steaming and bending the wood to fit the sides of a boat.
This painting is oil on canvas on board and measures 3x5 inches(7.6x12.7 cm.)

OH no! Another Orange!Bid here

O.K. After an unplanned absence that started to take on a life of its own, I decided to get back to blogging. I am thinking I'd like to expand the blog subjects a little, but I don't know exactly which direction to go... maybe backing off of art a little to include a bit more of life. Anyway, I painted an orange while thinking about it. Here it is, its 4x5 inches (10x12.7 cm) and its oil on paper on board.

Ribbon Embroidery

This is a small piece of embroidery that I did. I used beads and silk ribbon, and a flower cameo in the center.

Yet Another Orange

This is the end result the Orange sketch I posted a while back. Quite a difference, they are so different that I hesitate to call the first one a study for the second. This one is much more dramatic. It tasted just as good, too.

Valentine Surprise!

Oooh, look at what secret fairy Nature Trail has sent to the frozen south. Two bars of chocolate in wrappers in adorable wrappers, two pencils with shiny hearts on them, a pad of paper to draw on, a pyramid of green tea for inspiration, a candle for light to draw by, matches in a bird box to light the candle, and a lovely organza bag to put my drawings in. Lastly a wonderful sachet of lavender (how did you know?) to inspire my muse and make me think that maybe sometimes summer can be a state of mind, too.
All I can say is thank you so so much. You'll never know how welcome this was.

More snow, more cold.

More snow, more cold, more pictures of both. I think that once a year God should send us vanilla flavored snow, just to break up the monotony of plain-flavored snow.

Ducks

I am becoming obsessed with the weather. OK, not obsessed exactly, but more aware of it. During another snow fall I took this of the ducks on the river. I wouldn't give up snow and cold for all the mild winters in the world, and neither would the ducks, I think. But I always wonder how they keep their feet warm.

Orange

I guess this is really a tangerine, but it's still yummy. I don't know about the background, I'm thinking darker, maybe. Anyway its a quick sketch that I want to work up to a full painting. Let's see if that happens........

Snowdog

Run! It's snowing again! Louie has the right attitude, if you have to have cold weather it might as well be fun.

Its Spring!

I found these in a garden center, nestled in the Astilbe.
